Which chemicals can I use? Do I need a special anti-icing chemical?
You can use your current anti-icing liquid chemicals. Typically these are solutions of sodium chloride, magnesium chloride, calcium chloride, potassium acetate, calcium magnesium acetate and other common liquid deicers.
Can I change deicing/anti-icing chemicals at the same site?
Yes, you can interchange any common deicing chemicals, as long as they would not normally produce an adverse reaction to one another.
Can I still spread rock salt on my SafeLane™ overlay surface?
Yes. SafeLane™ overlay is a preventive maintenance tool that seals the surface deck or road surface from water and chloride intrusion, so rock salt causes no ill effects. As the rock salt creates a brine this will be absorbed by the SafeLane™ overlay surface keeping it “recharged."
How often do you have to reapply the chemical deicer?
Chemical application frequency is a function of precipitation events and traffic volume. Chemicals should be applied at your current rate until you have determined the proper application rate for your site.
